Using the Little Balance Box

We’ve put together various educational videos available to watch on our Youtube Channel. Topics cover assembly, introducing the Little Balance Box to your child, to other educational tips by Dr. Shannon, PT.

What is the recommended age?

The Little Balance Box can start as early as 6 months with adults hands-on assistance. Hands-on assistance is required to use the Little Balance Box in the early stages of the Little Balance Box until your child is ready to use independently. Development and skill happens over time in 3 stages: the learning stage, repetition stage and graduate stage (at which your child is able to use independently without assistance but with guidance and supervision).

Do you have a model for taller kids?

Yes. We do have a model for taller kiddos, available in the 14″ inch. However, 95% of children fall into the original size at 12″. The Tall Little Balance Box (14 inch) is for those kiddos in the 95% percentile of height. The Little Balance Box should hit the child’s waist.

What material is the top?

The Little Balance Box® does not contain a glass top. The clear top is made of polycarbonate, the same material used on motorcycle helmets. It is completely crash tested.

Are the corners sharp?

The Little Balance Box® has four sides that have all been carefully sanded down to a rounded shape. The Little Balance Box has been thoroughly safety tested by an accredited lab here in the United States.

Can the table tip over and hurt my child?

Anything that is not bolted to the ground has the ability to tip over. That is why we require hands-on assistance with the Little Balance Box, especially for those just starting to use it. With that being said, we have designed the Little Balance Box® to be extremely lightweight as to not injure your child. It was invented by a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a mom, it was also checked by engineers and tested by an accredited lab here in the United States. The Little Balance Box® trapezoidal shape prevents tipping and it has a very low profile.

What makes this product different then the others on the market?

The Little Balance Box is shorter than a traditional push toy. This allows a child to access the top surface in kneeling and actively participate in the transition from moving from tall kneeling to standing.  Other push toys require a child to be lifted to reach the push bar, this limits the child’s opportunity to practice this critical transition skill.  The large flat top surface provides lots of options for a child to place their hands and forearms where ever they feel most comfortable versus only having the option to hold onto a push bar.  Other great features of the Little Balance Box is that it has a clear top that allows the child to watch his/her feet and make a connection. It also makes a percussive sound that children love to tap on! Springs in the feet provide stability while moving on a variety of floor surfaces and during transitions.  Springs also provide enhanced sensory feedback that feel good to a child’s developing muscles. Lastly, the dual function as a sensory activity table, allows the Little Balance Box to be used for years. No need pull chairs in and out, just sit on the floor and use! With the raised edge, the Little Balance Box is the perfect activity and snack table because it keep small items in place.

Do the feet have wheels?

No, the feet do not have wheels, in fact they are springs encapsulated in a colored nylon shell. The springs provide stability for  the Little Balance Box® Creating a drag mechanism that aids a child to control the speed on different floor surafaces and during transitions from kneeling to standing.

What are the yellow booties?

Made of silicone and provide additional traction for a new walker or for floors surfaces that have a high gloss finsih.

What type of material are the feet made of? The feet are made of pure nylon allowing them to work on different floor surfaces.   Debris and/or gravel should be cleaned from the floor surface prior to using to ensure no scracthing to the floor surface.

Can it be used on tile, carpet and wood?

The Little Balance Box® can be used on any surface. It will easily transition from tile or wood to carpet.

Will it scratch my floor?

Because the feet are made of pure nylon they won’t scratch your floors, as long as they are clean.
